Making Space for and with Young People
                                                                 
As architects, urban designers and planners we deal in speculative futures: we plan buildings, districts and cities to be built in years and decades to come. Thus, in most cases, we plan for today’s young people or those even yet to be born. Yet current discourse around engaging local citizens in the design and planning process rarely tackles this reality. Older people are far more likely to participate in the local decision-making processes that shape our neighbourhoods and cities.

Yet young people are not “hard to reach”, nor are they uninterested. In fact, if you really take the time, with the right tools to empower and value them, the ideas they have may make you fear you’ll be out of a job soon.
